The legendary Cobra name has returned to Australian motoring organizations, with Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) today launched its new special edition GT Cobra and Cobra Ute.

Thirty years ago the Ford Falcon XC Hardtop the now famous 1-2 victory formation stages of the 1977 Bathurst 1000 race, which led to the release of the limited edition Cobra XC Hardtop the following year.
The Cobra name invokes passion among motoring enthusiasts, and now 30 years after the famous 2.1-victory at Bathurst, the new FPV GT Cobra offers the exclusivity of Cobra ownership to a new generation of car owners, said General Manager Rod Barrett FPV.
The new FPV GT Cobra combines the original XC Cobra's bold styling with the latest technology and FPV overall performance.
While the vehicles has outwardly over the same blue racing stripes and coiled snake Cobra emblem that is famous for is, the vehicle can be supplied with power by FPVs latest high performance Boss 5.4-liter quad cam 32-valve V8 engine, which now produces 302kW.
The new Boss 302 engine drive both the sedan and Ute variants produces 302 kW power and 540 Nm of torque and is equipped with FPV stainless steel fabricated exhaust manifolds and a high-flow dual exhaust system.
For motoring buffs, 302, the capacity in cubic inch Ford small-block V8 engine and was also exactly double the 151 kW output of the 1978 Cobra's 4.9-liter V8 engine.
The GT Cobra has a limited slip differential and is available with either a close ratio six-speed gearbox with high torque clutch or the ZF six-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift available.
FPVs's innovative R Spec handling package fitted as standard on the GT Cobra, the most outstanding chassis dynamics of the special model.

The GT-P and GT are characterized by high performance 5.4 liter quad-cam 32-valve V8 engines that produce a maximum power of 315kW at 6500 rpm and a torque of 551Nm maximum driven at 4750 rpm .
The Boss 315 was completely re-calibrated to maximize response and driveability, while an improvement in volumetric efficiency allows the engine to breathe better.
The extra breathability, along with strength and durability improvements made to the engine hardware, it has FPV to the maximum speeds increase to 6500 revolutions per minute.
"Drivers of the GT will notice note improved acceleration of the vehicle and the overall driveability, along with a smoother idle and a better engine."
